Amsterdam // The home team home-team kicks if all off! This group of diverse and eclectic players have been performing together since 2014, continuously pushing themselves and the Amsterdam improv scene to new heights. They will perform their signature twist on a classic long form. 

Barcelona, SP // In a fantasy world, anything is possible, and we'll prove it! In a world of wizards, werewolves, banshees and barbarians, we'll build a story that makes sense of your suggestions.... and hopefully makes you laugh at the same time!

Amsterdam // In their duo Tartine, Alex and Kiki take your suggestions, turn them into a series of grunts, and take it from there.

Frankfurt, DE // Neil Simon is one of the most popular and prolific American playwrights. Certain themes reoccur throughout his work and include marital conflict, infidelity, sibling rivalry, conflicts between parents and children, bereavement, fear of aging and survival when the odds are stacked against you. The Dangerous Play ensemble will enlist the help of the audience for a title and bring them an original one-act play, based on the works of Neil Simon.

Amsterdam // Bros & Hohs consist of Kiki Hohnen and Rory Brosnan, two experienced improvisors. Kiki trained in Amsterdam, Rory trained in LA. Kiki likes cats, Rory likes sausage rolls. They both love long form improv.

Hoorn // A group of improv friends from Hoorn and Amsterdam, who like to experiment with new forms of longform improvization. They enjoy that special dance on stage, where on the spot, a simple idea is transformed to an interweaved web of connections, and the whole scene is more than the sum of its parts

Netherlands // Rocky Amaretto has been performing in the Netherlands since 2010. Founded to fill the gap between scripted and improvisational theatre, Rocky Amaretto is always on the search for the theatrical, the unexpected and boundaries. They will play their show ‘Fathers’. Kicking off the show with a true story surrounding the theme by one of the players, then opening up the dialogue with the audience.

Imagine a park bench in the city. What stories would it witness during a single day? Will it see the morning runners, and then the corporate folks having lunch, after which the kids hang-out after school? Later, maybe there is a romantic date in the evening and then the homeless man in the night? Every day is different, and variety is the key to this long form format 'The Bench'. The audience provides the location: what buildings or areas are situated around the bench? 

About the coach: Anja Sophie Boorsma started improvising in 2000 and quickly became a leading lady of Dutch improv by bringing formats and teachers in from abroad. She has taught and directed impro throughout The Netherlands and abroad, and developed many new formats. During her Artistic Directorship of IMPRO Amsterdam (2011-2015) she laid the groundworks of the current festival.

Netherlands/Belgium // Werewolves The Improv Show is a unique experience. It combines the popular party game Werewolves of Miller’s Hollow with improvised theatre. The result is a gripping show in which the players introduce the village and its residents. Everything seems to be going just fine until werewolves start killing the villagers one by one. The audience must stop them before it’s too late… 

Kent, UK // Twinprov are a twoprov act, aiming to produce improv so connected that the only thing separating us is our foot in height difference! They have a playful, experimental monoscene style, multi-rolling and often venturing in to abstract territory, whilst keeping the focus on relationships and connections!

Amsterdam // The Odd Couple is a format with a simple premise. Two pairs of people who are bound together in their personal lives are each not allowed to share the stage during the show. This team is made up of a co-habitating couple and a ‘work married’ couple who each spend unconscionable amount of time together off stage that they are banned from doing so on stage. The result is a show which forces each player to be creative in their premises and edits, and is overflowing with Game.

Coached by Bart van Loon // A mixed ensemble of improvisers from all over come together to perform for the first and (likely) only time.

This is a form where players absolutely block out any invention from the improvisers and audience. The players are forced to fully engage with even the tiniest 'thing' they see in their partners, the scenes can go wildly in any direction, making improv more dream-like and less fiction-like. Like in a dream, you're not in control, you're just participating. Feeling like you are following and living in an overwhelming dreamscape is the goal of this workshop, and the fluid format that results will be presented onstage.

About the coach: As one of Belgium's leading men, Bart said goodbye to scripted theatre in 2005 and picked up improvisation. He has been improvising professionally since 2012, organising festivals, doing corporate gigs, teaching across three continents, and performing as one half of The Bookends. In 2016, he completed a three-month tenure as Associate Artistic Director at the Courtyard Playhouse in Dubai, the leading theatre of improvisation in the Middle East. Bart also works as an entrepreneur, geek-for-life and public keynote speaker. 
 

Gouda // A group of impro actors who specialize in clowning and play out stories through this medium, often taking on the perspective of an event, subject or anecdote.

The Hague // Founded out of the fusion of two experienced improvisation groups that existed separately for decades , Vrij Spel wants to share their love of playing together with the audience. Their history is reflected on stage as they start with drastically different scenes and hope to end up in the same universe together.

Netherlands // Just like humans, puppets have their own hopes, dreams, fears and goals in life. In a universe where humans, puppets, monsters and sentient objects coexist together almost anything can happen. Fast paced comedy, and touching drama are the ingredients of a show that perhaps should not exist at all. It is, after all, a rather silly show... according to the wicked Puppet Master!

Bristol, UK // One Board Man is a solo improvised performance.
Using a whiteboard and a pen, one sole improviser will draw a series of characters inspired by members of the audience, and use them as part of the story.

Leiden // Science meets Improv. A trained biologist, Dr. Aniek will guide you through the life and biology of a newly discovered organism, leaving you to wonder what is fact and what is fiction.

Groningen // Stranger Things plays short-form, which means they jump from game to game where the rules change all the time. Sometimes the characters pick up movie quotes from the floor. Sometimes they can only speak one word at a time. Sometimes they have to redo the scene in a completely different genre. The result is a breakneck pace energetic comedy show.

Amsterdam // Amsterdam's longest running English language improv group will play "Scenes From A Bucket." The audience submits what they want to see and the results play out randomly on stage. 

Bielefeld, DE // Over the course of a relationship love can take many forms. In their show "Falling For You", we will watch two people navigate the beginning of their relationship. That first rush of affection and uncertainty, of love and lust, of anguish and delight is going to be the half hour traffic of our stage. Who these two star-eyed lovers are going to be will be up to the audience and whether they will live happily ever after is up to fate alone.

Utrecht // De Stuurlui make comedy. Their improvised sketches are often absurd, abstract and unexpected. The players themselves quick-witted, sharp and occasionally violent. Despite their difference in humor, they understand each other perfectly. They join forces to explore every scene just a little bit further than expected.

Everywhere // Amsterdam Improv Marathon producers invite some of their friends and favorite improvisers for a knock-out end-of-the-day show to remember. 

Eindhoven // Description 

Bristol, UK // Kitchen Rules Theatre is the longform improve group in Bristol, UK. They specialise in UCB and IO style training, preparing students for performance level. In Bristol, they are the leading long form community, presenting performances such as their fortnightly Shit Show Cagematch, and their titular show, Parents Basement. Their weekly workshops have helped students form teams of every format, from group team Harolds to two-prov monoscenes.
Representing Bristol will be their four founding faculty members!

The Hague // Royal Improv saw the light of day late December 2017 in Jen’s living room in The Hague. They are an international group of improv players with roots in several improv groups. Royal Improv performs monthly comedy improv shows in different venues in the Metropole area and brings and Armando long form to the Marathon stage. Amsterdam // The Monoscene is a one-act play that takes place in a single location in real time with no external edits of any kind. It is frequently referred to as an improvised one act play. Due to the boundaries of the format, an improviser must be able to play with nuance, use space objects (objects that only exist in the imagination of the audience and performer) and create temporary worlds with conviction.

Netherlands & London // A comedy improv group that formed in 2014 in London and the world's only improv group with a minimum height requirement.

Groningen // As members of Stranger Things Have Happened, Chandler Bullock, Jelle Bonnema and Thomas Mook performed in hundreds of short form shows. Inspired by long form successes such as TJ & Dave, they decided to branch out into free-for-all long form performances that can range from classic British murder mysteries to modern farcical comedies. There are no rules, and that's the point: if Grown Men have embraced anything over the years, it's carefully controlled chaos.

Amsterdam // A great mixture of advanced and non-advanced improv players. Mainly expats living in or near Amsterdam.

Amsterdam // This year's TVA Topmodule jumped into the deep end with an exploration of the world of clowns. And boy, were we in for a ride! Clowns are true to themselves, experience fear and joy, and are not afraid to share it! The audience is the most valuable partner for the Clown!

Rotterdam // The newest improv group coming out of Rotterdam and pioneering the English scene there. They love experimenting with various forms and are bringing their brand of short form to Amsterdam. 

Groningen // 'Clothes Maketh the Man', right? You will get to decide what our actors are wearing and what this means for their character. Is the guy in the cape secretly Batman? Or is he a member of the Spanish Inquisition? It's all up to you! Once the dress code has been decided, the story is ready to unfold... but what kind of story? You get to decide that as well!

Delft // The only English-speaking improvisation theatre group in Delft. Our members are mostly international students and employees from the Delft University of Technology, but not only! They do short-form improv, taking advantage of the international culture from their members.

Amsterdam // These players combine the joy, playfulness and energy of short form into a more developed long, free form style. Life and the humor within it are explored through finding universal truths and games within scenes. Players have the freedom to edit, ask for audience suggestions, or change the reality of the universe to follow the threads wherever they may lead.

Utrecht // Short, unconnected, ordinary scenes build up to reveal an often eerie, absurd, secretive plot. KaasWol plays a free-form long form, only lead by the imagination of the players, often ending up in a perplexing tragic end. The way the players tease and surprise each other, create energetic chaos, and manage to tie the loose ends together, leads to a baffling spectacle. The show is best summarized by a common audience reaction: "Nothing made sense, but somehow, I believed everything."

Amsterdam // Consisting of all (former) TVA Impro members, Magnesium was born about three years ago to explore the depths and unknown corners of the Harold. From there, we started to explore other long forms. They haven't left the training grounds very often until now, but we are ready to shine on stage!

Cologne & Bielefeld // Lena Breuer and Nick Maaß are two professional improvisers from the western part of Germany with a strong connection to narrative longform. They both like to discover characters from short scenes and follow their storylines throughout a whole evening of improvised theatre. And they are both incredibly romantic.

Lena studied acting and journalism and has worked as a freelance artist for 8 years. Nick is a teacher and actor, working with kids as well as adults. With the duo Doppelgänger they unite their forces! For the last 5 years both have been traveling through Europe (and the US), taking workshops, teaching workshops and performing.

Amsterdam // A group of Amsterdam based performers who run into each other everywhere. With a commonly shared appreciation of character and storytelling, they had the urge to perform together. They are sure this performance will be a fairytale where everyone lives happily ever after. Their show is short form-style and features performers who indicate in advance how well they think they will perform in the games. After every game the audience gets to vote which player did best. Points are scored if a performer had guessed correctly how well they would do. At the end of the set a winner is declared!

Lisbon // Improv FX are a Portugal based improv group featuring André Sobral, Hugo Rosa and João Cruz, three huge geeks that have worked together for 6 years and are a regular presence at Comic Con Portugal.

Rotterdam // A group of dead birds dearly dedicated to having improvised fun! Watch us peck, pluck and preen ourselves together in our mass grave.

Delft // The number one improv group by the number of sheep worshippers. As the only English speaking improv group in Delft, they host our own improv shows to honour Diggy the Sheep, praised be unto her! With the highly international member set of humans from all over the world and a sheep idol, they focus on short-form improv to gain most blessings from Diggy herself.

Amsterdam // Five youthful and ambitious players with a high energy approach to improv.

Utrecht // De Stuurlui (The Helmsmen in English) bring fast pace impro, clever word play and completely unnecessary violence. Dublin // Having formed back in 2016, To The Biscuits is well-established in the Dublin improv scene; its members bring a range of experience with them, having performed in the US and UK and at festivals like the Edinburgh Free Fringe and Improv Fest Ireland.

Amsterdam // Short in stature but titans in talent. Comprised of Davide Dispenza, Mimi van Amerongen, Nora McLeese and Isaac Simon, this team is known for its high energy and fast pace. They have been performing together since 2017 in Amsterdam and across Europe, having featured at festivals such as Copenhagen International Improv Festival (2018, 2019) and Oslo Improv Festival (2018, 2019). Their show at the Flemish Improv Marathon (2019) was so epic, all the stage lights blew out. True story.

Bremen // Frauen auf See is a true love story, an improv ovation, a mentality and an anchor. The „seawomen“, as they sometimes refer to themselves, afloat in a well attuned and trusting synergy, surfing the stimuli of classical drama, performance art, music, literature and dance. They like to dive deep in story, and the hearts and minds of their audience.
